Now that you're not eating salt, here are some things you can do with the leftover salt canister in your panty.

  • To remove rust stains on small tools, make a paste of salt and lemon juice. Rub on the stains to clean.
  • To remove odor from wooden cutting boards, pour salt on board and rub with a wet cloth. Wash with soapy water.
  • Pour 1/2 cup of salt into your garbage disposal to remove odors.
  • Use as a drain cleaner. Pour a mixture of 1 cup of salt, 1 cup of baking soda, and 1/2 cup of white vinegar down the drain. Let it stand for 15 minutes. Flush with 2 quarts of boiling water followed by running hot tap water for 1 minute.
  • Stain remover and scouring powder. Mix 1 cup of salt with 1 cup of baking soda. Use as you would any scouring powder.
  • Remove odors from your hands with salt and lemon juice.
  • Kills slugs
